A function is a pace of code that can be executed multiple times in your system .When you need this block of code just call it .

Creating your first php function
you use the keyword to define the php function. you can see this in the following example :
Code:
<?php
 function myfunction
()
  {
  // function body
 }

Note: Your function name can start with a letter or underscore "_", but not a number!

Using php function

here an example of using php function
Code:
<?php
 function showme
()
  {
   echo "My name is johan";
   }

 echo "Welcome to our website ";

 showme();

the output of this code :
Code:
Welcome to our website
My name is johan

Using parameters :
Code:
<?php
 function showme
($name)
  {
   echo "My name is $name";
   }

 echo "Welcome to our website ";
 $username="johan";
 showme($username);
 showme("Tom");

the ouput is :
Code:
Welcome to our website
My name is johan
My name is Tom

Return values from parameter :

Code:
<?php
 function sum
($x,$y)
  {
    $sum=$x+$y;
   return $sum;
   }

 echo " sum of 1 and 4 is :  ". sum(1,4) ;

the output is :
Code:
sum of 1 and 4 is :  5

Thank you
