I want to save video files from channel 4 website to keep on my computer. How do I do that? heres the link for the streaming video i want to save:

You can try this free software "StreamTransport", it can download Streaming Video.

I use Convert-tune to record video stream. It is very easy even for a newbie :-)

It converts audio files to MP3, M4A (AAC), WMA and WAV and video files to MP4 (iPod), WMV, AVI and 3gp.
There is an option I like, 'surf and catch video'.

As for me,what about record streaming video i prefer use Macvide ScreenCap http://macvide.com/Macvide_ScreenCap/.I like it's prog and i think it's must be help you too.

Now that you know the link of the video, you can use downloading software to download and save this video by its URL. How to rip MTV videos （http://www.downloadallvideo.com/extract-youtube-videos.html）shows the detailed downloading process. If you like, you may refer to it.
